The Institute of Nano Science & Technology (INST), Mohali, is inviting applications from highly motivated and talented individuals for the post of Project Research Scientist-I (Non-Medical) in an ICMR-funded project titled “Development of targeted nanotherapy for Spinal Muscular Atrophy”. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge nanobiotechnology research with real-world healthcare applications.

About the Project

The selected candidate will work under the guidance of Dr. Surajit Karmakar (Scientist-G) on developing advanced targeted nanotherapies for Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a severe genetic disorder affecting muscle function. The role will involve interdisciplinary research combining nanoparticle synthesis, biomedical applications, molecular biology techniques, and animal studies.

Project Duration: Initially for one year, extendable based on performance and funding (up to three years)
Fellowship: ₹56,000 per month + HRA (as applicable)

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification:

  • Postgraduate degree (including integrated PG degrees) in Life Sciences/Nanobiotechnology
  • OR PhD in Life Sciences/Nanobiotechnology

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • First-class PG degree holders with UGC/NET/SLET/GATE or equivalent national-level qualification
  • PhD candidates with relevant first-author publications
  • Hands-on experience in:
    • Nanoparticle synthesis and characterization
    • Biomedical applications
    • Biochemical assays, mammalian cell culture, and animal handling
    • Molecular biology / nanobiotechnology techniques and routine laboratory experiments

Age Limit: Not more than 35 years as on 22 August 2025 (relaxable for reserved categories as per Government of India rules)
